Ramadan kareem everyone! 🙂
Dubai is in a festive mood with Ramadan beginning from today. For me, Ramadan just meant fasting by people who follow Islam. But it’s only after knowing Wafa and Mukhtar, I understood that there is a whole deep meaning behind the fasting during this holy period. What reflects us back to ourselves? What opens a door or a window so we can peer into our souls, to make sure all our suppositions are straight as we move ahead? It is deprivation of anything we really need or want and what can be bigger that the deprivation of food.
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is meant to humble oneself and increase moral discipline as well as serve as a reminder of the plight of those less fortunate who live in hunger and deprivation.
The returns of this fasting (if correctly done) also come in the form of many health benefits as it helps the body to detoxify and speeds up the healing process as the energy usually used for digestion is diverted towards metabolism and the immune system.
I must say hats off to Muslims who do this kind of a tough fasting for a whole month. But I guess anything that can make you do that precious soul-searching is so totally worth it and deserves respect.
