The Red Lipstick and I

For the longest time, I avoided buying myself a Red lipstick. Honestly, I had no confidence to put on a Red lipstick. I had no courage to make a statement. No guesses, what my little vanity had was only neutral, plain, simple shades of lipsticks. Somewhere I felt comfortable behind that no-makeup, neutral face – comfortable because I was not saying – Hey! I am here. Look at me! … safe because I was not taking risk by putting a nobody face on.
But it was not a happy face either as I was hiding the real me inside, scared of how my face is gonna look if I chose that red lipstick which to be honest I always wanted to wear but was  afraid of looking ugly, felt I did not have a perfect face nor a perfect pout. Afraid of speaking my mind, I would not share my thoughts.
And when I thought deeply over it, I realised it was not just the choice of lipsticks, I was scared about taking any bold decisions in my life, be it the kind of baggy clothes I would wear or the boring finance job that I hated to the core.  I would not voice my opinions. I was not courageous enough to take a decision to change all of that. I was not feeling great enough about myself. I was not living enough.
And this realisation was just the start of every single thing that followed thereafter … great things because I let go of the feeling of ‘playing safe’ in my life. I may not have a ten on ten face or a sexy pout but I am perfect just the way I am and I deserve to make my choices, without being scared of what the world would think. I deserve to make choices that make ME happy – right or wrong, bold or not so bold as long as I make them with confidence. I deserve to voice my opinions – right or wrong … they are mine.
I gave up the finance job. I changed my wardrobe. I started writing a blog. I bought a Red lipstick.

{BEAUTY} Garnier Micellar Water – A Review

Sheikhland is one happening city, where one event follows another. What I enjoy the most about the events is getting ready for them and to try new make up looks but what I hate the most is the part where at the end of the tiring day, you have to put in so much effort to get rid of all the make up.
And so I was delighted to discover a hidden drugstore gem which saves me good 20 minutes of removing make up in the night by making it a super-easy task and which is becoming very popular in the beauty community.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing water it is ladies!
GARNIER MICELLER WATER
But before I go any further on my review of this product, let us see what micellar water actually means.
Micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. And if you want to read in depth about how it works, check out this on Huffingtonpost.com –
It is easily comparable to the famous Bioderma makeup remover but at a drugstore price.
I used to be very loyal to the Bioderma makeup remover and this was after trying quite a few other makeup removing products in the market. So, I was pretty surprised … well pleasantly surprised to see such an amazing dupe for it in the drugstore.
You get 400 ml of product, costs AED 36 and it lasts for 200 uses on an average. The product is pretty gentle on the skin and you don’t have to scrub your face with it. But it doesn’t completely remove waterproof mascara that well. But other than that it pretty much breaks down your makeup. And icing on the cake is that no rinsing is required after using it.
You get a mini size too which is great for travel. What is great about it is that, it doesn’t leave my face feeling dry, but in fact makes my skin feel both clean and moisturised after I use it.
All in all, a product totally worth trying. Infact Garnier has recently come out with another version of the micellar water, which is their oil-infused micellar water and I am so looking forward to try that too.

So, until I see you in my next post, take good care of yourself and never ever sleep with make-up on.

{BEAUTY} How to Apply Lipstick like a Pro

My obsession with lipsticks is no news. And the fact that my belief in this piece of colour is as strong as some of the greatest women achievers have had, makes me have much more confidence in how a lipstick can change your confidence game.

There are days when I feel so down and out but as soon as I put a bright lipstick on, it works like magic and changes my mood. Whether I want to play a subtle nerdy look or a sexy mama or the girl next door, a lipstick in the correct shade does wonders to make me just look the way I want to. Such is the power of lipsticks. And today we are going to talk about a brand which is nothing else but lipsticks … well let me call it ‘awesome lipsticks’ and can’t be better a name than ‘Lipstick Queen; for it. What say you?

So, recently I had the pleasure of being invited to a Lipstick application masterclass by Celebrity makeup artist Sarah Jane, in collaboration with ‘Lipstick Queen’. As cool as this brand is, as cool is the story of the woman behind it – Poppy King. Well, for the story, go ahead and google but cannot not ention her famous quote on the lipsticks, which I so agree with –

”FOR ME, NOTHING IS AS GLAMOROUS OR AS EMPOWERING
AS LIPSTICK.
It doesn’t just brighten up my face, it fires up my confidence, making me feel like I can take on the world! My mission is to help you feel the same way! Ever since I fell in love with the transformational power of a simple slick of lipstick, I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect textures and shades to express every facet of a woman’s personality. There’s a lipstick for every mood, every occasion and every outfit and I am devoted to helping you find them.”

So much so I love lipsticks, I never knew the tips and tricks for that flawless lipstick application and I am glad to  my rescue came Celebrity makeup artist Sarah Jane, who has done makeup for various Hollywood movies and editorials. The icing on the cake was to be able to play with the interesting range of lipsticks from Lipstick Queen, whilst learning how to master the art of applying it.

So here are some tips that I learnt  to achieve that perfect pout.

1. Scrub your lips before applying a matte or liquid lipstick. (Rodial does a great lip scrub in a pen form, easy to apply and carry it around)

2. Sometimes lips have a grey or brown undertone. Apply foundation on the lips to even out the undertones.

3. Use a lip-liner to line your lips and fill your lips in with it. It helps to stay the lipstick put for a long time and helps avoiding bleeding of lipstick too.

(Lipstick queen does a very cool invisible liner – absolutely worth checking out)

4. Apply lipstick and then buff it with powder after covering your lips with a tissue. It helps in getting the excess lipstick off and provides a beautiful finished look.

6. To fill in the corners properly, use an angled brush.

5. If you want to make your lips look fuller, apply highlighter on the cupids bow and around the mouth.

Talking about what I love about Lipstick queen lipsticks now: they do some very cool treatment lipsticks that keep your lips moisturised whilst adding some colour. By the way, this range looks super cool – Hello Sailor (Blue), Frog Prince (Green) and Bete Noire (Blackberry)

If you apply them before applying a matt lipstick, it helps your lips against dryness. By the way, the matt range of LQ looks super-glam and the best thing about it is that the lipsticks contain Vitamin E and Apricot Oil to ensure that lips remain moisturized and supple. The final addition of Peppermint Oil adds a clean and subtle scent.

Also I find their glosses from the ‘seven deadly sins’ pretty interesting as they claim a Rich, dramatic coverage with a weightless, non-sticky textureUltra-glossy formula hydrates and protects with Cranberry Oil, Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Rosemary Extract for a truly tempting pout:Tantalizing, trendsetting shades that are wickedly wearable.

Wow … I am so excited to try out all the above and share my views with you in this space. For now, I hope you enjoyed the tips in here. What are your favourite lipsticks? Do you have any lovely tip for lipstick application? Do share it in the comments.

So, until I see you next, take care, stay beautiful and flaunt a sexy pout with the brightest lipstick. Life is too short to have boring lips.
